Re: Windows scaling ?

Herve,

I experimented some time with HP UX 10.01 and 10.10 and I'll give you some excerpts from previous emails:

The first is indicating some problem, as we wanted to have fast retransmit working, but didn't get it to work. The session with ttcp worked well with scaled windows, but at the first retransmission is sometimes stopped for 60 ( sixty ! ) seconds.

The second excerpt is the response after some discussion with a HP testlab. Unfortunately, we did have the opportunity anymore to test again.

FIRSt EMAIL

A. If the window scaling factor is larger than 0, the duplicate ACK counter is not incrementing anymore and no fast retransmission is issued.

B. Fast retransmit works perfectly after 3 DUP ACKs when using a window smaller than 64kB, with or without the RFC option enabled.

test1
-----

RFC (dont_winscale and done_tsecho) disabled. maximum window used, fast retransmits are issued

test2
------

RFC enabled, 200 kbps TCp session with 60kB window, perfect fast retransmissions, counters for DUP ACKS incrementing

test3
------

RFC enabled, TCP session with 66kB window so window scaling is forced : after an error the session collapses and slow starts kick in, after 7 seconds.

All TCP options, window sizes, fast retransmits and so forth have been checked wih the Sniffer. Capture files on the sender LAN are available.

SECOND EMAIL

Hello Mr. Zeppenfeldt,

regarding the RFC1323 Problem with hp-ux 10.X i would like to inform you that the problem is identified within the hp-ux tcp code.

The official service request number for a fix regarding this problem is
1653-182782.

I would expect the fix to be included in the next TCP XPORT patch.

For an exact answer to the question which patch will include this fix, please contact the HP suport center with the sr number provided above.

Good luck Herve, I would be very interested in your results if you get some thing running.
