I do not know any reference installations personally but I heard good experiences with the DL 3800E from Digital Link. This one will inverse mux one HSSI/RS-499 into several (up to 8) E1's (G.703/704/BNC/DB15) , also over a 250 ms hop. I do not know whether RS-449 is also supported instead of E1, but normally there should be a module for a satellite modem to give you that interface.
Seems to work well with CISCO's (http://www.dl.com/relnot05.html and ciscoap.html).
