HTTP, WAIS, gopher proxy, mail forwarding, news forwarding, etc,
through a proxy on the otherside of the satellite link seems like the
application of existing practices. These practices applied to
terrestial links are beneficial but for satellite are enormously
beneficial. I guess the point is that this is not research. The
techniques are well known and already widely used.
