[ns] Wireless simulations

Hello,

I am trying to simulate a wireless ad-hoc network to test the importance
of some parameters in mobile routing. To do this, I wanted to develop
a simple ad-hoc routing protocol and have my parameters vary.

Before I go further in learning how to use ns, I would like to know how
near (or far) from the real wold the wireless simulations in ns-2 are.
I want to be sure that my results will still be accurate when I test
it on a real 802.11 network (if I get one one day...).

I wasn't able to find in the documentation what remains to be done in
ns-2 for wireless communications. Where are we today (I have compiled
version 2.1b7), what can we do with this and what evolutions are planned ?
