CAIRN FreeBSD PC Router

To meet its goals for network research, CAIRN requires a general-purpose programmable router platform with an open software system. The platform chosen for this function is a high-end PC running the FreeBSD operating system.

PC Hardware for CAIRN

MIT has developed initial specifications for a suitable PC router configuation.

PC Software for CAIRN

The FreeBSD operating system has been selected for use on CAIRN PC's. Documents are interest are:

  • DARTNET PC Router software [MIT]

  • Version 2.2 (960604) DARTNET/MIT Distribution installation

  • Binary Compatibility with FreeBSD Release 2.1 applications

  • X11R6 Configuration on the FreeBSD PC
