[ns] Link Capacity

Dear ns- users
     I am running a simulation where the link
bandwidth is only 10000bits/sec, and I purposely dump
a lot of packets into the link (i.e definitely exceed
the link bandwidth of 10kb/s because I can see packets
dropping from nam display).   I also wrote a awk
script to extract the link throughput between node 0
and 1 for example (i.e. extract bytes that received
either by node 0 or node 1 -"r" for node 0 and node
1).  The resulted xgraph showed that the maximum link
throughput is actually bigger than 10000bits/sec. I am
wondering why it would happen ?  I am wondering what
are the reason of the dropping packets , is that due
to buffer memory overflow and/or link capacity has
been exceeded ?  Your help and advise on this is very
much appreciated. Thanks.
