Hi Kamal,

It depends on what you mean by "greatly". Personally, I only recommend
compression if you use the Compression Service Adapter (CSA) for the
7200/7500 or the Compression Module for the 3600. It's a card with an extra
CPU that off loads the compression from the router's processors.

Lab and field results show a consistent 2.2:1 to 1.7:1 ratios with Internet
traffic. This is in line with other external compression devices using STAC.

To a small ISP in a country in Africa on a 512K link costing $120,000 (US) a
month - 1.7:1 compress is "great." To a small company in the US with a T1 to
their ISP, 1.7:1 compression compared to the cost of the hardware does not
make sense. Cheaper to upgrade the link.
