ElectAssist

A Toolkit for the Administration of Online Elections

Written by Ulrich Germann

ElectAssist is a toolkit for the administration of online elections. It is geared towards small to medium-sized organizations with several hundred to maximally a few thousand members.

With minimal setup, ElectAssist assists you with the following tasks:

Preparation

  • create Voter IDs and PINs
  • send out election announcements containing these Voter IDs and PINs

During the election

  • enforce the election deadline
  • validate votes before they are cast to reduce the number of invalid ballots
  • authenticate voters
  • store votes anonymously
  • invalidate PINs after votes have been cast
  • store the content of feedback fields (if provided on the ballot form) anonymously and independently of the actual vote

After the election

  • automatically gather and display the election results

Read the Manual.

ElectAssist was used in the following elections

  • NAACL (North American Chapter of the Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL)) 2001
  • SIGdial (ACL Special Interest Group on Dialogue) 2001

Feedback

"The ElectAssist software was great! I did not have any problem with it. [...] I followed your instructions very carefully and everything worked smoothly. [...] I also felt comfortable with the error-reporting mechanism: it was not difficult supervising the elections' process. Thank you!"
(Morena Danieli on running the ACL-SIGDial elections in 2001)
