James Bedell is a first-year PhD student at USC, where he is co-advised by Kevin Knight and Fei Sha. He graduated from Princeton University with a B.A. in Computer Science in the spring of 2014. He is working on narrowing his research interests, since right now he finds many problems related to parsing, understanding, querying, translating and deciphering text to be equally interesting. He is a passable but not exceptional guitarist, bass guitarist, clarinetist, and singer, and enjoys songwriting. He enjoys video games that don't rely much on fast reaction timing, like Minecraft and Skyrim. He is a big fan of several obscure subgenres of metal, as well as folk, progressive, and alternative rock. One of his goals in life is to learn to cook more kinds of vegetables, and his dream research would probably be to write a system which scrapes technical web content, performs automatic music synthesis, and produces diss raps. También, él habla español.

My areas of interest are information integration on the web and machine learning. I have also worked at SAP as a mobile application developer and I enjoy creating mobile apps. I love scripting languages, music and movies.
