SERC is involved with an exciting new advent of space platform morphology:  the concept of “aggregating” satellites in space.  Using groundbreaking DARPA research we’re developing testbeds, design algorithms, and electro-mechanical docking systems to apply the concept of cellular morphology to space platforms, which are traditionally monolithic structures.  Known as "satlets", these first new morphology components may have the unique ability to build any size, scale or shape on orbit, post-launch – and to perform any specified function.  SERC is investing in tools and testbeds to step into this untapped research arena.
