Steve Crago is a Research Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Interim Vice Dean of Engineering and Michael Keston Executive Director of the Information Sciences Institute.
Steve earned his Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from USC in 1998. He joined ISI in 1997 initially as a Computer Scientist and later, in 2014, as a research faculty member. He has been an invaluable member of ISI, contributing to its growth and success through both his administrative leadership and research accomplishments.
He served in the capacity of Project Leader, Senior Project Leader, and Assistant Director at ISI before becoming Director of the Adaptive Parallel Execution Group (since 2012) and Director of ISI’s Arlington site (since 2015). He also served as the Deputy Director of the Computational Systems and Technology Division (2013-2015) and Associate Director of ISI (since 2018). Most recently, in 2023, he became the founding Director of the CA DREAMS hub of the DOD Microelectronics Commons Program, an award valued at more than $100 million.
Steve’s research has been sponsored by DARPA, NASA, ONR, and other government agencies. He has led many projects—from small, focused research efforts to large multi-disciplinary collaborations. His research interests and contributions span across microelectronics, lab-to-fab transition, heterogeneous computing architectures, high-performance and embedded cloud computing, introspective systems, and parallel software.
