ISI/nsiders – ISI

Adam Russell, AI/nthropologist and Director of the AI Division at the USC Information Sciences Institute (ISI), is on a journey to help build a better world with AI. After launching AI/nsiders in 2023 where he interviewed the ISI humans behind our AI research, he expands his quest to the other disciplines researched at ISI. Networking, cybersecurity, computing, microelectronics, quantum, space, ISI scientists have a lot to say about the state of their fields, their research topics, and how AI fits into them.

Jacob Lichtefeld, a Research Engineer at ISI shares how his background in dance has impacted his work, as well as influenced his understanding of using scores to grade models. He discusses why being able to keep learning new skills and tools is important to his field. He explores why a creative skill critical to expressing oneself through the arts is something he believes will be difficult for artificial intelligence to develop. He explains why he believes language models will always surprise us with their capabilities, behaviors and results. Listen to his episode of ISI/nsiders below.
