“We are not studying how humans respond to misinformation properly”

Adam Russell, AI/nthropologist and Director of the AI Division at the USC Information Sciences Institute (ISI), is on a journey to help build a better world with AI. After launching AI/nsiders in 2023 where he interviewed the ISI humans behind our AI research, he expands his quest to the other disciplines researched at ISI. Networking, cybersecurity, computing, microelectronics, quantum, space, ISI scientists have a lot to say about the state of their fields, their research topics, and how AI fits into them.
Jelena Mirkovic, a Principal Scientist at ISI, shares how pursuing work she enjoyed led her to where she is today. She explains the highs and lows of working in networking and security, from having papers rejected to seeing team members grow in new ways. She shares how a finding from research about the way people create and use passwords surprised her. She discusses why she believes concerns about misinformation should extend to a wider range of topics on a wide range of channels. Listen to her episode of ISI/nsiders below.
