“My hope for AI is that it will make us better people”

Adam Russell, AI/nthropologist and Director of the AI Division at the USC Information Sciences Institute (ISI), is on a journey to help build a better world with AI. After launching AI/nsiders in 2023 where he interviewed the ISI humans behind our AI research, he expands his quest to the other disciplines researched at ISI. Networking, cybersecurity, computing, microelectronics, quantum, space, ISI scientists have a lot to say about the state of their fields, their research topics, and how AI fits into them.
Yolanda Gil, Senior Director for Strategic Initiatives in AI and Data Science at ISI, shares why there’s reason to stay optimistic about the future. Yolanda discusses the complexities of working with people, from how hard it can be to understand what motivates others to make the decisions that they do to the community and culture at ISI. Adam and Yolanda discuss how AI could be able to assist humans in their work, and the two explore how research and application have progressed over the years to help the public.
