Abstract

The ability of a child to demonstrate resilience is a complex outcome influenced by multiple interconnected social systems. One system important to child resiliency is the family system, specifically parenting and the parent-child relationship. However, less is known about how macrosocial systems may affect the family system and, in turn, resiliency at the individual level. This study explored the effect of warm/responsive parenting and involvement on the association between adversity exposure and child internalizing and externalizing symptoms. Additionally, we examined the role of socioeconomic status (SES) and acculturation on the interaction between parenting, adversity, and child mental health to examine how contextual systems may influence the family-level system.
