Ethics and fairness for diabetes artificial intelligence

Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) has shown promising advances in diabetes care, particularly with the use of neural networks for diagnosis and treatment. However, the utilization of AI without careful consideration may raise ethical concerns regarding different types of biases. Meanwhile, there is a lack of literature to investigate fairness in AI-based diabetes care systems. Thus, in this chapter, we aim to identify different types of biases in AI-based diabetes care, analyze the underlying causes, and introduce potential approaches to mitigate these issues.
