Towards task-centered network models through semantic workflows

Abstract

Virtual organizations conduct network operations by executing complex tasks over resources that are distributed and vulnerable to attack. Current network models do not have a task-oriented representation of the mission, which is crucial to manage the accomplishment of mission goals while ongoing attacks and deception are occurring in the network. We describe a new approach to model high-level tasks to be accomplished in the network through semantic workflows. The system can then map tasks dynamically to logical and physical resources in the network, and reassign those mappings if any resources are compromised.
