Fake News, Fake Accounts, Real Consequences - detecting malicious social media fraud

The last half decade has seen an explosion in the volume of misleading or outright false content shared online, and in the automated voices that amplify it. The events of the last year, and especially the last few months, highlight the impact these forces can have. This talk will examine the nature of this content, look at a variety of techniques for detecting it, and discuss the implications for social media policy going forward.
Speaker Bio
Jennifer Golbeck is a Professor in the College of Information Studies at the University of Maryland. Her research focuses on artificial intelligence and social media, privacy, malicious social media behavior, and trust on the web. She has a PhD in computer science from the University of Maryland and degrees in computer science at economics from the University of Chicago.This program is open to
