AI/nsiders – ISI

Adam Russell, AI/nthropologist and Director of the AI Division at the USC Information Sciences Institute (ISI), is on a journey to help build a better world with AI. He interviews the ISI humans behind AI to understand what motivates them, how they shape AI today, and where they hope AI will go.

Wael AbdAlmageed, a Research Director at ISI and Research Associate Professor in the USC Viterbi Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, shares how the arts have impacted his career — from the way poetry changed the way he thinks about AI to how a musical role model influenced his decision to study computer science. He discusses what he believes is one of the major issues facing the AI community and students within it and what he fears could happen if misinformation and bias are allowed to continue. He explains what he hopes AI will do to advance healthcare, what it could teach people about being consistently empathetic, and what it needs to get right to be successful. Listen to his episode of AI/nsiders below.
