“Having an AI strategy is becoming more complex because it’s unpredictable”

Adam Russell, AI/nthropologist and Director of the AI Division at the USC Information Sciences Institute (ISI), is on a journey to help build a better world with AI. After launching AI/nsiders in 2023 where he interviewed the ISI humans behind our AI research, he expands his quest to the other disciplines researched at ISI. Networking, cybersecurity, computing, microelectronics, quantum, space, ISI scientists have a lot to say about the state of their fields, their research topics, and how AI fits into them.
Craig Knoblock, the Keston Executive Director of the Information Sciences Institute, discusses the differences between running a company and a research institute. He shares the experiences that led him to discover his passion, as well as what advice he’d give those in college trying to find the research areas that interest them. He explores the things have that have gone right in his career, including working with a mentor, as well as mistakes he made that have helped him learn and grow. He explains which historical individuals in science inspire him and what lessons researchers could take from the progress they made. Listen to his episode below!
