On May 5, 2025, the California DREAMS (CA DREAMS) team hosted a distinguished delegation from the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) at the University of Southern California. AIT, a non-profit corporation, facilitates business relations between the United States and Taiwan. The visit marked a step toward deepening commercial, technological, and investment ties between the two regions—particularly in the fields of semiconductors and microelectronics.

“Today was focused on opportunity and collaboration,” CA DREAMS Director Stephen Crago said. “By bringing together the best of U.S. and Taiwanese capabilities, we could lay the groundwork for breakthroughs that will shape the next generation of technology.”

Jason Chang, Commercial Specialist for AIT, added, “We were impressed by what we saw today. Taiwan is eager to explore new pathways for U.S. collaboration in microelectronics, and initiatives like CA DREAMS and MOSIS 2.0 offer exciting potential for shared progress.”

The delegation’s visit included an in-depth presentation on the CA DREAMS Hub model and its engineering service, MOSIS 2.0, whose innovative approach to streamlining chip prototyping spurred significant discussion. The delegation also heard presentations from the Hub’s three defense industrial base foundries—Northrop Grumman, HRL Laboratories, and Teledyne—and toured the John O'Brien Nanofabrication Laboratory at USC.

Throughout the day, CA DREAMS leadership, U.S. government representatives, and delegates from Taiwanese industry emphasized the tremendous scope for collaboration between the U.S. and Taiwan, especially noting how Taiwan’s manufacturing interests in doing business in the United States align with the goals of MOSIS 2.0.. The goal of the exchange was to bring these entities one step closer.

“We have strong relationships with Taiwan,” Yannis C. Yortsos, Dean of the USC Viterbi School of Engineering, told the group. “I hope we continue that for a long time.”
