Supporting paleoclimate research with the FAIR principle: lessons from LinkedEarth

Abstract

As a newly minted graduate student, Rey has been tasked by her professor to investigate the role of age uncertainty in a published pollen record using a clearly defined methodology. On the surface, this request appears simple to our young paleoclimatologist, who has grown up in a world shaped by Google. After all, if her cell phone could identify the location of a vegan restaurant within a mile of the conference center, surely there should be an app for finding the record, retrieving it, and analyzing it using the state-of-the art technique her advisor had recommended.
