A self-organizing approach to data forwarding in large-scale sensor networks

Abstract

The large number of networked sensors, frequent sensor failures and stringent energy constraints pose unique design challenges for data forwarding in wireless sensor networks. In this paper, we present a new approach to data forwarding in sensor networks that effectively addresses these design issues. Our approach organizes sensors into a dynamic, self-optimizing multicast tree-based forwarding hierarchy, which is data centric and robust to node failures. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our design through simulations.
