Intelligent Caching
Abstract
Accessing information sources to retrieve data requested by a user is typically expensive. Caching the results of queries, or related classes of data, can reduce the cost of processing future queries. This paper discusses the problems that must be considered when deciding which information to cache, how to describe what has been cached, and how to use cached information to answer future queries. This is done in the context of the SIMS information server, a system for retrieving information/data from multiple heterogeneous and distributed information sources.
