Demonstration of a Cross-Coupled Differential Regenerative Photonic Latch for Integrated Ultra-fast On-Chip Memory

Abstract

We experimentally demonstrate, for the first time, a cross-coupled differential regenerative photonic latch (pLatch) fabricated on GlobalFoundries (GF) Fotonix Silicon Photonics platform. We showcase robust read and write operations using differential photonic signaling, paving the way to scalable photonic SRAM - critical for advancing photonic in-memory computing, AI accelerators, tensor cores and active routing on photonic interposers for data center chips. Additionally, we report 1-bit photonic in-memory computing scalable to multi-bit operations as well as multi-bit first-in-first-out (FIFO) structure. The photonic latch reliably holds data for several minutes while supporting concurrent photonic read/write and compute operations. Simulations performed on the GF Fotonix platform validate ultra-fast operations up to 20 GHz, with resilience to 0.8 V single-ended electrical noises at 1.8 V VDD and ±25 pm tolerance to …
